How Agencies Get Their Region’s SPI!

During the spring of 2009, more than 500 agencies participated in Phase Two of the SPI Study directed by investigators at the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  All responses have been kept in the strictest confidence.  Data distributed through the study will be reported starting later this year in a multi-state format, with no individual organization's or community's information identifiable.

Data was submitted by agencies across the country in one of three ways:

  • Completion of a brief online questionnaire (no longer available)
  • Completion of the questionnaire in PDF format. To see a sample, click here.
  • Submission of an existing report in any format (Word, Excel, PDF, etc.) that included the 2007 & 2008 information requested on the questionnaire.

Participants who submitted data by April 30th, 2009 were entered in a drawing for a chance to win prizes, including free registration to Animal Care Expo 2010 and NACA’s 2010 Annual Training Conference, ASPCA textbooks and a one-year membership to the National Federation of Humane Societies. Click here for the complete prize list and prize winners.

All study participants will receive the 2007 and 2008 SPI for their region and the nation, as well as the formula to calculate an SPI for their community.  These are powerful tools to use with funders, officials and animals lovers.

If you would like more information or have any questions, please contact Study Coordinator Martha Boden at SPIQuestionnaire@gmail.com or 317-557-9947.
